Indian Railways will Operate 7,000 Special Trains for Diwali and Chhath Puja

In anticipation of a huge rush in passenger traffic during the festive season, Indian Railways operates special trains each year. Similarly, this year, also Railway will run 7,000 special trains to provide safe travel to passengers during Diwali and Chhath Puja. The decision was approved in the cabinet meeting on Thursday. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav informed that two lakh passengers will get the benefit due to this decision. Apart from this, in today’s cabinet meeting, major railway projects have also been approved.

Diwali-Chhath Puja 2024: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced that the Indian Railways will operate 7,000 special trains this year to accommodate the increased passenger demand during Diwali and Chhath Puja. Railway Minister said that a railway line has been approved for Amaravati in the first railway plan. For this, a new 3.2 km long railway pole will be constructed over the Krishna River. It will connect Amaravati with Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Nagpur.

In addition, the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur railway lines will be duplicated to connect North Bihar with the eastern states. Uttar Pradesh and Uttar Bihar will benefit after the doubling of the 256 km long railway line at a cost of Rs 4553 crore.

The Union Railway Minister said that after the dualization of Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamadhi-Muzaffarpur railway lines, connectivity in Nepal, eastern and border areas will be strengthened. The movement of freight and passenger trains will also be facilitated.

On the other hand, the new 57 km long rail line will run from Errupalem-Amaravati Nambur through Vijayawada and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh and Khammam district of Telangana. The Union Minister said that the railway network will be expanded by 313 km under this Rs 6798 crore railway project to reach eight districts of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Bihar. In addition, 168 villages and about 12 lakh population will get benefit with 9 new stations. This will result in 31 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) of additional cargo.
