In view of the increasing influence of Amazon and Flipkart in the country, the Government of India has launched a new plan called Open Network Digital Commerce or ONDC. In this, sellers can sell their products directly to customers. Small town and rural vendors will be financially empowered through this platform. But this service is going to be expensive for customers. Transactions above Rs. 250 on this platform may incur a charge of up to Rs 1.20. Utilization of the revenue accumulated in this will help in meeting the new needs in the business sector.

This ONDC of the Government of India has recorded transactions of 14 lakhs in the festive season of October, while 12.9 lakh transactions have been done on the first of September. A growth of 7.6 percent has been recorded during this month. Up to 5 lakhs are now being sold on this official platform for online shopping. There are 90,000 in food and beverage, 10,000 in beauty products, 40 thousand in fashion and 20-30,000 in small segment.

The number of sellers in ONDC is increasing and it has become more than 160. It includes retailers like Paytm, Snapdeal, Moor, Pincode, Magic Pin. ONDC now has more than 70 apps for shopping, of which 40 apps are performing well.
