FASTag – Electronic Toll Collection System In India | Now Recharge Your FASTag Using WhatsApp By IDFC First Bank

Toll plazas are present across the country to get the toll tax from many years now but there was no structured system in collection and deposit of that collected amount of road tax. To streamline the entire process of collection, deposit, and utilization of funds, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI)has introduced the FASTag. FASTag is the electronic toll collection system operated by NHAI.

The FASTag programme was jointly launched by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Indian Highways Management Co. Ltd. (IHMCL) and National Payments Corp. of India (NPCI) as a medium to accept toll fare across all National Highway plazas. Initially in 2014 between Ahmedabad and Mumbai it was designed to be a pilot project. But, after the initial success with individual projects, on 15th December 2019, FASTag was made mandatory on all National Highways. FASTag has improved the scenario of toll plazas across the country. Whereas, those vehicles are not having the FASTag are charged double the toll amount in all the toll plaza across the country. FASTags are accepted across all national highway toll plazas and selected state highways.

Vehicle owners can get FASTag from many sources such as get if from partner banks, toll plazas across the country, get online FASTags by purchasing from e-commerce websites like Flipkart and Amazon as well as partner bank websites, IHMCL websites and also get from My FASTag App that is available From both Google Playstore and Apple store. Vehicle owner can use only one FASTag for one vehicle. Same FASTag cannot be used for multiple cars because every vehicle has a unique FASTag, even if the FASTag owned by the same person.

FASTag has the adhesive on their one side, you just have to stick the adhesive side of the FASTag on the top middle portion of the windscreen. You should not use other adhesive or any tape if the FASTag glue is not properly adhere to your windscreen. You can attach the FASTag from inside the car and below the rear-view mirror. Once it stick to the windscreen do not try to repositioning it, this may lead to the damage the RFID on the FASTag.

Activation of FASTag can be done through Certified Bank Branch. FASTag is linked to a prepaid account with partner banks. When your car with FASTag passes the toll plaza, it will activated and automatically the toll amount will deducted from your account. FASTag uses the Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology when it activated. Especially in metro cities near the toll plazas, this FASTag helped in the reduction of traffic along with all over the country.

You can recharge the FASTag through the UPI payments option or credit card and debit card or net banking. Banks act as issuers and acquirers in this ecosystem which processes close to seven million transactions a day.

Among all the partner banks of FASTag, IDFC First Bank announced the start of its integration with ‘payments on WhatsApp’ to enable simple and secure FASTags recharge for the Bank’s customers without signing into any other mobile app or net banking platform. To facilitate the FASTag recharge on the instant messaging app, IDFC First Bank has partnered with WhatsApp. IDFC FIRST Bank customers now be able to reload their FASTags through the IDFC FIRST WhatsApp chatbot.

IDFC FIRST Bank customers can recharge their FASTags and get started by simply saying “Hi” to the bank’s official WhatsApp chatbot at +9195555555555. After that in whatsApp chat select the recharge option, enter amount and verify the transaction using OTP. Then you will get a message confirming the transaction.
