How to Apply for a e-Shram Card Online : Check Benefits, Payment Status, Download
To provide social security to the workers in unorganised sectors, the Government of India started the e-Shram yojana. Any person working in an unorganised sector can apply for an e-Shram card or Shramik card. Through the e-Shram card labourers and workers those who are working in unorganised sectors can get different benefits such as a pension after 60 years, death insurance, financial aid in case of incapacity, UAN number, etc.
For the workers in unorganised sectors the government also launched the e-Shram portal.
The main objective of the e-Shram portal is to collect the database of unorganised workers and provide them the benefits of all the new
government schemes.

What is the Unorganised Sector?
The unorganised sector contains establishments or units engaged in selling services, goods, or production and employs less than ten workers. These units are not covered under the ESIC and EPFO. Any worker working in the unorganised sector is considered an unorganised worker. A person who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO and is a home-based worker or self-employed worker is also called an unorganised worker.
Benefits of e-Shram Card
- The unorganised worker having an e-Shram card will get the following benefits:
- Get the Rs.3,000 of pension per month after 60 years.
- Death insurance of Rs.2,00,000
- Financial aid of Rs.1,00,000 in the case of partial handicap of a worker.
- If a worker in an unorganised sector with an e-Shram card dies due to any mishap, the spouse will get all the benefits.
- Beneficiaries will get a 12-digit UAN number valid throughout India.
Eligibility for e-Shram Card
- Any unorganised worker or any person working in the unorganised sector.
- Workers should be aged between 16-59 years.
- Workers should have a valid mobile number linked with the Aadhaar card.
How to Apply for e-Shram Card Online?
Through the Common Service Centre (CSC) or the e-Shram portal one can apply for the e-Shram card. For offline application eligible person can go to their nearest CSC centre and apply for the e-Shram card. By entering the state and district for applying for the e-Shram card on the e-Shram Portal, eligible persons can
locate their nearest CSC centre.
- For online applications an eligible person can visit the e-Shram portal and this is the Self-registration page.
- For registration first enter the mobile number that is linked to your Aadhaar card, then enter the captcha code and click on the ‘Send OTP’.
- On the linked mobile an OTP will be sent, enter the OTP and click on the ‘Validate’ button.
- After that your personal information will appear on screen, you can Confirm that.
- Enter the required personal details, such as address, educational qualifications, etc.
- Next, select the skill name, nature of business and the type of work.
- After that enter your bank details and select the self-declaration.
- After filling the form click on the ‘Preview’ to verify the details you have entered and then click on ‘Submit’ button.
- After clicking on the Submit, again an OTP will be sent to the mobile number. Enter the OTP and then click on the ‘Verify’ button. Then, your e-Shram card will generated and displayed on the screen.

- Aadhaar card.
- Mobile number linked with Aadhaar card.
- Bank account.
How to Download e-Shram Card?
- After filing the application form on the e-Shram portal, now you can download the e-Shram card, through the following process:
- To download the e-Shram Card, first visit the e-Shram portal.
- Open the website and click on the ‘Already Registered’ tab and select the option ‘Update/download UAN card’.
- Here enter your UAN number, date of birth and carefully enter the captcha code and click on the ‘Generate OTP’ button.
- On the linked mobile number you will receive an OTP, enter that OTP and click on the ‘Validate’ button and your personal details that appear on the screen, confirm that.
- Next, to verify the details you have entered, click on the ‘Preview’ option and then click on the ‘Submit’ button.
- After that again an OTP will be sent to your mobile number, enter that OTP and click on the ‘Verify’ button and your e-Shram card is generated and displayed on the screen.
- By clicking on the download option, you can download your e-Shram card.
How to Check Balance in e-Shram Card?
- To check the balance in e-Shram card first visit the e-Shram portal and click on the ‘E-Aadhaar Card Beneficiary Status Check’ link.
- Here, enter the e-Shram card number, UAN number, or Aadhar Card and click on ‘Submit’ and you can see your e-Shram payment status.
