How to Apply for Nua-O Scholarship Odisha, 2024? Get the Magic Card
Recently, the Odisha government introduced a Nua-O-scholarship program for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Recently, the chairperson of 5T and Nabin Odisha scheme, V K Pandian addressed the students at the ‘Nu-O festival’ at Jajpur and said that the decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Pandian said that the scholarship will be available for students of undergraduate and post-graduate programmes who studied in state universities and government and non-government aided colleges including Sanskrit colleges under the Higher Education department.
Students whose parents are government employees working in any state or central government office and pay income tax, would not be able to avail of the scholarship, he said.
He also added ‘the Nua-O scholarship for the current academic year will be deposited in the bank accounts of the eligible students from February 20 onwards. This will be a new era of student empowerment towards realising the CM’s vision of ‘Nabin Odisha’.
Pandian also said ‘Around 4.5 lakh undergraduate and 32,000 post-graduate students are expected to benefit from the Nua-O scholarship.
What is Nua-O scholarship?
NUA stands for Nutana Unnata Abhilasha. This Nua-O-scholarship program aims to empower youth of the state and assist them in learning new skills and acquiring knowledge that will help them in building their career.
Under this scholarship program male students will get Rs 9,000 annually, while female students will receive Rs 10,000 as scholarship amount. Male students belonging to SC/ST and Nirman Shramik (construction worker) families will get Rs 10,000, while female students of the same categories will receive Rs 11,000 annually under this program.

Benefits of Nua-O Scholarship
- Male students will get Rs 9,000 annually under this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria for Nua-O Scholarship
In order to get the benefits under this Nua-O scholarship programme, the students who are domiciled in the State of Odisha are required to fulfill the following eligibility criteria.
- Applicants must be an Indian citizen.
- Candidates must belong to the these categories: General, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Other Backward Class (OBC), Socially and Economically Backward Classes (SEBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC).
- Students must be enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs in any state university, be it government or non-government institutes.
- This programme also includes Sanskrit college students under the Higher Education Department.
- Applicants must have been admitted through the Student Academic Management System (SAMS) under the jurisdiction of the Higher Education Department.
- Students whose parents are government employees working in any state or central government office and pay income tax, they will not be eligible for the scholarship.
Magic Smart Card for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students
- The government of Odisha has declared that they will introduce a Magic Smart card for the beneficiary’s students, to provide them with more benefits such as access to free WiFi, bus or train travel, skill development programs enrollment, online courses, and other upskilling opportunities that can help them in their career goals.
- Under the NUA scheme, the students can learn many skills as they have partnered with many great education programs such as Microsoft, IBM, Coursera, Autodesk, TATA, NIIT, and many others.
According to the government authorities, Odisha government has allocated the budget in the cabinet, which is around Rs 300 crore and students will receive thid Magic Smart Card by August 2024.
