What is PM Kisan Yojana?

PM Kisan Yojana (PMKSNY), also known as Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, is a central government scheme that provides income support to small and marginal farmers in India. By Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this scheme was launched on February 24, 2019. Registered Farmers under the PM Kisan scheme receive a sum of Rs. 6,000 per year in three installments of Rs. 2,000 each.

This scheme provides supplemental financial support to the farmers to procure various inputs related to agriculture and allied activities and their domestic needs. PM-Kisan provides income support to all landholding farmers’ families who have cultivable lands. Under this scheme, 100% of funding is provided by the Government of India. After the beneficiaries are identified, the funds are directly transferred to their bank accounts under this scheme.

Features of PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana

• The primary feature of this Yojana is the minimum income support that provides to farmers.
• Registered Farmers under the PM Kisan scheme receive a sum of Rs. 6,000 per year in three installments of Rs. 2,000 each across India.
• The amount of Rs.6000 divided into three equal instalments and meted out four months apart. That means each farmer receives Rs.2000 every 4 months.
• The funds are directly transferred to the bank of the Farmers accounts under this scheme

Eligibility Criteria for PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi

• All landholder farmers’ families are eligible to obtain the benefits under this Yojana.
• A beneficiary should be an Indian citizen.
• Small and marginal farmers are eligible for PMKSNY.
• Farmer families that hold cultivable land as per the land records of the respective state or UT can apply for the benefits of this plan. The existing land ownership system is used for identifying the beneficiaries.
• Farmers from both rural and urban regions can be enlisted under this PM Kisan Yojana.

Who All are Not Eligible Under PM-Kisan Yojana

1. Beneficiaries belonging to the higher economic status will not be eligible to obtain the benefits under the scheme.

2. Every institutional landholder is ineligible.

3. Farmer families belonging to one or more of the below categories shall not be eligible either:

• Individuals who hold or have held a constitutional post.
• Regular employees of local governmental bodies.
• Present and former Ministers, State Ministers.
• Chairpersons of District Panchayats.
• Mayors of Municipal Corporations
• Members of Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha.
• Present and former members of State Legislative Assemblies or State Legislative Councils.
• Individuals who continue to serve or did serve as employees and/or officers in any government ministry, department or office and its field unit.
• Persons who served as an officer or employee in any Central or State Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) and Autonomous bodies under the Government.

4. Any individual who filed income tax in the last Assessment Year or his/her family is not eligible.

5. A person and his/her family who has retired or superannuated and receives monthly pension of Rs.10,000 and above are ineligible for this scheme excluding Class IV/Multi Tasking Staff/Group D employees.

6. Families with professionals like a doctor, engineers, chartered accountants, lawyers, and architects who are professionally involved in their respective fields are not eligible.

Benefits of PM-Kisan Yojana

• Under the PM-Kisan scheme, income support of Rs.6,000 per year is given to all farmer families those who are having cultivable land in their name, irrespective of their size.
• The amount of Rs.6,000 is given in three equal installments every year.

• Proof of citizenship
• Documents showing ownership of land
• Details of bank account

How to Apply for PM-Kisan Yojana Online

• For online registration for the PM-Kisan Yojana, go to the official website of PM-Kisan portal.
• When you open the website, it’s homepage you will see the option ‘New Farmer Registration’, click on that.
• After that ‘New Farmer Registration Form’ page will open.
• The registration page will verify if the farmer is already registered on the portal.
• For verification, farmer has to select the ‘Rural Farmer Registration’ or ‘Urban Farmer Registration’ option.
• Then, enter the Aadhar Number, select the state from the drop-down list, enter the captcha and click on the ‘Search’ button.
• If you are already registered you details will be shows up. If the details are not found on the database, the page will display the confirmation and ask ‘if you want to register yourself’.
• You need to click on the ‘Yes’ tab and the registration form will open where you have to enter the personal and banking details and click on the ‘save’ button.
• The farmer needs to follow the instructions shown on the page and complete their registration process.
