How to Clean Your Laptop Display?
Things to know to Clean Your Laptop Screen
Before going to clean your laptops, let’s take a quick look at the things we need first.
- Microfiber cloth
- Water (Distilled)
- Screen cleaning spray (optional)
How to use these to clean your laptop screen:
Whether you have a laptop with an LCD glass or a plastic OLED display, the above listed item are all you need to clean it.
- First, switch off your laptop and unplug it entirely.
- Take a dry microfiber cloth, use your one hand to give the laptop display some support at the back to keep the display from going back and other hand to gently swipe through your laptop screen and get rid of the dust.
- After that take some distilled water to dampen the microfiber cloth and gently rub on the display in a circular motion.
- To get rid of extra stains, pour or spray little bit of screen cleaning solution onto the microfiber cloth, and again, gently rub your laptop screen in a circular motion,
- Wait for some time to dry your laptop screen and then, use the dry part of the microfiber cloth to gently and slowly swipe through the laptop screen.
- This is the simplest way you can use but incase some stubborn stains, it may require additional force. For LCD displays or displays made of glass, you can use an isopropyl alcohol solution. Dilute isopropyl alcohol solution a bit with distilled water before using it on display.
- On the other hand, if you are on a plastic OLED, you can take some white vinegar for the same effect. The reason you should use vinegar for plastic displays instead is that they don’t have that extra layer of protection on top and isopropyl may be too harsh for them, thereby damaging the screen.
Things Not Do When Cleaning Laptop Display
- Do not use dirty microfiber cloth to get rid of the dirt, before using the cloth you must ensure that. Otherwise you will just make things worse, as the dust particles from the cloth will rub against the screen and it will leave micro scratches.
- Don’t use your fingers to get rid of dust from your laptop display. The force from your fingers can be too harsh for the screen and also your fingernails can accidentally leave dead pixels on the display as well.
- Don’t use too much force or aggressive motion on the screen. Use a circular motion to rub the microfiber cloth against the laptop display, and it is more effective and gentle..
- You can only use distilled water. Do not use unfiltered water to clean the display. Because unfiltered water can have many harmful minerals that pose a threat to your display.
- Don’t pour or spray cleaning solution or water directly onto the display. Always dampen the solution on a microfiber cloth. Otherwise liquid can enter sensitive components and possibly damage them. You should remember that your laptop is not waterproof.
