The Odisha government, headed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, has initiated the Mission Shakti Scheme Odisha. The scheme was launched on 8 March 2001. The aim of Odisha Mission Shakti Scheme is to give the financial independence and entrepreneurial skills of women in the state. Women those who are eligible for this scheme can also receive assistance in the form of uniforms and blazers. Under this scheme women can also get the interest-free loans up to Rs 10 lakh. Seventy lakh women in Odisha’s self-help groups (SHGs) will benefited from this scheme.

Odisha Mission Shakti Scheme was launched to empower the women of Odisha with interest-free loans. Aim of this project is to improve the economic status of women who are members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs). With this scheme women will be provided with the opportunity to start or grow their businesses and turn self-help groups into small enterprises. The government allocated a total sum of rupees Rs 730 crore to assist them in purchasing items like coats and uniforms for their newly established business. In five years, they hope to open 5,000 stores where these women can sell their goods.
