Mumbai Court Issued Contempt Notice to Google CEO Over YouTube’s Failure to Takedown Offending Video
Big shock to Google CEO Sundar Pichai. Mumbai court issued contempt notice. The Additional Judicial Magistrate’s Court at Ballard Pier, Mumbai, issued a notice to Pichai for failing to take down the offending video from YouTube.
According to information, on March 2023, the 38th Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Ballard Pierre’s court ordered YouTube to remove an offensive video titled ‘Pakhandi Baba Ki Kartut’. The foundation complained because the video contained offensive language. Later, the court ordered the removal of the video. Google has argued that the provisions of the defamation law do not fall under IT Act 69-A, which allows blocking of content. Such complaints should be resolved in civil courts and not in criminal courts, Google said.
On the other hand, the court rejected the logic of the company and the IT Act did not stop the intervention of the criminal court in all these cases. However, the magistrate ordered the removal of the video, saying that it could disturb the peace. It seems that the court case has been issued against Pichai for not removing it YouTube.
