New SIM Card Rule: Unregistered Dealers will Not be Able to Sell SIM Cards from April

The rules for selling SIM cards in the country are going to change from April 1. After April 1, unregistered dealers cannot sell SIM cards. If they are caught doing so, they can be blacklisted and fined.The Department of Telecom has asked franchisees, distributors and agents of all mobile companies to register immediately.
Registration of SIM Card Dealers is Mandatory
The government has been trying to stop the sale of fake SIM cards for a long time. In this effort, registration of SIM card dealers was made mandatory. The government asked all agents, distributors and franchisees to register by August 2023, setting a deadline of 12 months.The deadline has been extended several times and now it has been extended till March 31.
Private companies providing telecom services in the country have registered their agents and distributors, but state-owned company BSNL is taking time. The company sought time from the government citing problems with its software. The deadline was later extended.
New Rules for Selling SIM Cards will Applicable from April
The new rules for selling SIM cards will come into effect from April 1 and only registered dealers can sell new SIM cards. This is expected to reduce the sale of fake SIM cards. As per the rules, there will be a written agreement between the telecom company and its SIM card selling agents and dealers etc. If anyone is found to be selling SIM cards in violation of the rules, they will be blacklisted. Apart from this, a fine may also be imposed on him.
