One Nation-One Election: What will Happen if Government Dissolved Prematurely?

The Union Government has introduced the ‘One Nation-One Election’ Bill in the Lok Sabha today. Earlier on December 12, the Union Cabinet had already approved this bill. After which this bill has been presented in the parliament today.
But the most important thing is that after its implementation, if the government is collapsing in any state, what will it do there? ‘One Nation-One Election’ Bill
The One Nation One Election Bill contains several provisions.
- How will it work in such a situation if the state government dissolved prematurely due to no-confidence motion or any other reason? In such a situation, by-elections will again be held in that state. But the tenure of the new assembly will last only till the next Lok Sabha elections.
- Apart from this, the Election Commissioner has also been directed to ensure that all the requirements should be fulfilled before the election. EC also has to make arrangements for EVMs and VVPATs.
- According to the provisions of the Bill, if the Lok Sabha or Assembly is dissolved during the interim period, by-elections will be held for the remainder of the term.
- There is also a proposal to include sections 82(a), 172 and 327 in the bill. 82(A) provides for holding simultaneous elections to Lok Sabha and Assembly.
- Apart from this, Article 83 provides for the tenure of the Houses of Parliament.
- The law states that only the President will announce when the simultaneous elections will be held after the general elections.
However, according to information, the 2029 People’s Assembly elections will be held as before, after which the One Nation One Election will be implemented.
