During pregnancy additional care, comfort, and nutrition are required and condition of a pregnant woman in the country is not an ideal one. What is Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY)?
Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), is a maternity benefit program run by the government of India. The scheme was launched in the year 2017 to provide monetary compensation to pregnant women who have lost their job owing to the pregnancy and to provide conditions for safe delivery and good nutrition and feeding practices. This scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana is a conditional cash transfer scheme for pregnant and lactating women of 19 years of age or above for the first live birth. This scheme also aims to improve the nutrition quotient for pregnant women and lactating mothers.
Eligible beneficiaries can receives the cash incentives in three instalments.
- First Instalment: ₹1,000 for early pregnancy registration.
- Second Instalment: ₹2,000 after six months of pregnancy and completion of at least one antenatal check-up.
- Third Instalment: ₹2,000 after childbirth registration and completion of the first cycle of vaccinations.
Also get the additional Cash Incentive: Beneficiaries also receive an additional ₹1,000 under the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) for institutional delivery,and get the total maternity benefit ₹6,000 under the PMMVY and JSY schemes.
Beneficiaries of the PMMVY Scheme
- All Pregnant Women and Lactating Mothers except those employed by the State Government, Central Government, or Public Sector Undertakings, and those already receiving similar benefits under another applicable law.
- Pregnant and lactating Anganwadi Workers (AWW), Anganwadi Helpers (AWH), and Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA).
Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana ( PMMVY )
Through PMMVY, pregnant women and lactating mothers can get the Monetary Benefits in three installments. Based on installment number beneficiary can claimed the money.

Eligibility Criteria for PMMVY
- The woman must be an Indian citizen.
- The woman was employed before she conceived the pregnancy.
- The woman should conceived on or after 01.01.2017.
- The woman has experienced a wage-loss due to the pregnancy.
- The woman is not on a paid maternity scheme.

How to Apply for PMMVY?
Online Process
- To apply online for Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana you have to visit the official website at https://pmmvy.wcd.gov.in/ and log in with the help of email id and password.
- If the login details are being used for the very first time then before proceeding system will prompt the user to change the existing password.
- After entering the system with a new password, the user will be taken to the Beneficiary list.
- Then, you can click on “New Beneficiary” to create a new beneficiary.
- Documents Required (Any of the Following)Aadhaar Enrollment ID

- After that select the corresponding ID from the list and select the location of the beneficiary.
- Then, fill the basic details of the beneficiary such name, mobile number, category, id proof number, LMP date, number of living children, pregnancy registration date, registration date under PMMVY, etc. in the given fields to complete the registration.
- After that enter bank details for receiving the instalments.
- The beneficiary can later make a claim and avail of the remaining installments by submitting the required documents that mentioned above.
Offline Process
- If you want to register for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana, offline then visit the nearest Anganwadi Centre (AWC) or an approved government health facility that implements the PMMVY scheme.
- Get the application form either from the AWC or download Form 1A from the official website (https://pmmvy-cas.nic.in).
- Fill the application form with beneficiary details, husband’s information, address, mobile number, Last Menstrual Period (LMP) date, bank account details, etc. and submit it at the AWC or the approved health facility.
- The supervisor will verify the information provided in the application form and after successful verification, beneficiary will receive an acknowledgement copy from the Anganwadi Worker (AWW), Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA), or Auxiliary Nurse & Midwife (ANM) and registration for the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana has been successfully completed.
