Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) Scheme: Get the Free Gas Connection

If you want to get free LPG gas connection, then register yourself with the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). This scheme was launched by the ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Aim of this scheme is to provide LPG connections to BPL households. Under the scheme, you will get Rs.1600 for each connection, interest free loan to purchase a gas stove and refill of the cylinder.

What is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY)?

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) was launched by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 1 May 2016 to distribute 50 million LPG connections to women of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. A budgetary allocation of ₹80 billion was made for the scheme. The scheme was replaced by the Ujjwala Yojana 2.0 in 2021.

According to the Finance Minister, around 1 crore new beneficiaries will be provided cover under the Ujjwala scheme. Under the scheme, for the purposes of city gas distribution 100 districts will be added over the next 3 years. So far around 8 crore households have benefited from this Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Scheme.

Beneficiaries of PMUY

  • A woman who belongs to a BPL family and does not have LPG connection in her household can get the benefits under this PMUY scheme.
  • Women must be included in the SECC 2011 list or under the seven identified categories namely BPL households under SC/ST households, PMAY (Gramin), AAY, Most Backward Classes (MBC), forest dwellers, people residing in river islands or Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes.

Eligibility Criteria for PMUY

  • Applicant should be an Indian citizen.
  • Age must be above 18 years.
  • Applicant should be a woman from a BPL family who doesn’t have any LPG connection.
  • Applicant should not be getting any benefit under other similar schemes.
  • Applicant should be included in the list of SECC 2011 or BPL households under SC/ST households, PMAY (Gramin), AAY, Most Backward Classes (MBC), forest dwellers, people residing in river islands or Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes.

Documents Required

  • BPL certificate issued by the municipality chairman or panchayat pradhan
  • Caste certificate
  • Passport-sized photograph
  • Photo identity proof
  • Address proof
  • BPL ration card
  • Aadhaar numbers of all the family members
  • Bank passbook of Jan Dhan bank account
  • Duly signed 14-point declaration in the prescribed format

How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana

  • To apply for Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, first you have to collect the application form from your nearest LPG distributor or you can download it online from its official website at www.pmuy.gov.in
  • Fill the application form and submit it to the LPG distributor office along with the necessary documents.
  • After submission of the application, it will be processed.
  • Once the documents are verified and eligibility is checked. LPG connection will be issued by different oil marketing companies.

  • To check the free gas new list by visiting the official website at www.pmuy.gov.in .
  • After that click on the option ‘New list’.
  • You can download the list and check your name in it.
