YouTube Launches New Tool that Label AI-Generated Content Used in Videos

YouTube forces creators to label AI-generated videos, that aims to help viewers to distinguish between real and synthetic content.

To holdback misinformation, YouTube introduced Mandatory Disclosure For AI-Generated Content. This new tool mandates for creators who publish AI-generated content, they must use to disclose that fact under certain circumstances.

Now, viewers will be able to see if the video they are watching on YouTube was made by a human or not. When the creators uses this tool, the disclosures will appear as a little label at the bottom of videos and Shorts when you watch it, that include ‘altered or synthetic content.

If you’re concerned whether that cool new video that’s trending was made with “altered or synthetic media, including generative AI,” then with this new AI-Disclosure tool will help you with that.

The disclosure tool is required only when the content isn’t clearly unrealistic, animated, has special effects, or only uses AI behind the scenes for production assistance.

Exceptions To Disclosure

  • YouTube acknowledges that creators use generative AI in various ways throughout the creative process and will not require disclosure when AI is used for productivity purposes, such as generating scripts, content ideas, or automatic captions.
  • Clearly unrealistic content like animation, fantastical scenes,or inconsequential changes like color adjustment, lighting filters, beauty filters, or special effects like background blur created with AI tools don’t need to be disclosed.

YouTube is also working on a new tool that lets you request the removal of AI-made videos that simulate specific people, including their faces or voices.
