Odisha Government Seeks NOC From DRDO For Airstrip Launch Under RCS-UDAN Scheme

To facilitate air connectivity to the northern part of Odisha, The government of Odisha seek permission from DRDO to operationalise Amarda Road Airstrip near Rasagobindapur in Mayurbhanj district for flight operation under RCS-UDAN scheme.

Chief Secretary of Odisha Suresh Chandra Mahapatra has written to Union Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar and request him to give necessary instructions to DRDO over issuing of no objection certificate (NOC)to operationalise The Amarda Road Airstrip near Rasagobindapur in Mayurbhanj district under RCS-UDAN scheme. He also wrote ‘northern part of Odisha is lack of any kind of air connectivity. If the Amarda Road Airstrip near Rasagobindapur in Mayurbhanj district operationalise, and it will also facilitate tourism. It will facilitate tourism connectivity to the tourist places like similipal national park, Chandipur and Talsari Sea beach, Kuldiha sanctuary. Increase revenues from taxes and foster the community relationship with neighbouring states and communities, also facilitate economic growth through trade and provide jobs.

Chef Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra also pointed out that’ the State Government has requested several time to DRDO in respect to providing NOC to use the Amarda Road Airstrip for commercial flight operation under RCS-UDAN scheme but till date there has been no response for which the flight operation is in a stalemate situation.

Chief Secretary also concluded in letter that’ I would again like to request you to kindly look into the matter and also issue necessary instructions to DRDO for use of Amarda Road Airstrip in Mayurbhanj district for commercial flight operation in the large public interest and hope DRDO would issue NOC as early as possible’.
