The Union Government has extended the last date for applications for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Under this scheme, the government provides financial assistance to the economically weaker sections of the urban and rural areas for construction of affordable permanent houses. This announcement by the government has reassured millions of people. In such a situation, if someone has not applied yet for any reason, then they can apply till December 2025.

More than 92.61 lakh houses have been constructed under this scheme till now. Now for the year 2025, the government has extended the last date for applying till December 30, 2025. Under PMAY-U, the government provides financial assistance of up to Rs 2.5 lakh to low-income earners for constructing pucca houses. However, there are some conditions for this.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must be a citizen of India.
Not have own pucca house.
Rural applicants’ family monthly income should be less than Rs. 10,000.
Rural beneficiaries will be selected on the basis of Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC-2011).
The annual income of urban applicants should be up to Rs 3 lakh for economically weaker sections, Rs 6 lakh for lower income groups and Rs 9 lakh for middle income groups.
Women from EWS and LIG groups, especially widows and women from SC, ST, OBC and minority communities can be included as beneficiaries in this scheme.

How to Apply

First go to the official website of PMAY.
Then, click on the ‘Citizen Assessment’ option on the homepage.
Select the option from the drop-down menu as per your situation (e.g. Slum resident, benefit under Part 3 etc.)
A new page will open, in which you will have to fill your name and Aadhaar card number.
Then verify your Aadhaar by clicking on the ‘Check’ button.
After that upload all the required documents, fill them with the captcha code and submit .Finally click on the ‘Submit’ button.
