If you are having a ration card and have not been getting ration items from the Public Distribution System (PDS) shops for several months, then their is an important news for you. The government is going to take a big step to prevent fraud and ensure that the benefits of the scheme reach the genuine beneficiaries. According to the new rules being implemented in many states, including Jharkhand, the cards of ration card holders who have not received ration for six consecutive months will be temporarily deactivated from October 1.
Ration Cards will Expire from October 1st!
Ration card beneficiaries who have not collected their ration from PDS shops for the last 6 months have been put in the ‘Silent Cardholders’ category. The verification revealed that many people had made ration cards only to avail the benefits of government schemes like Ayushman Bharat or other government scheme, but they are not collecting ration. The government wants to identify such fake or inactive cardholders and remove them from the list, so that the truly poor and needy can get their rights.
If your ration card is also in Silent Cardholders category list and you want to keep it active, then the government has given you a chance till September 21. You can go to the nearest PDS shop (dealer) before September 21 and collect your ration immediately. By doing this, your card will remain active. If you do not collect ration, then the card will be blocked from October 1.
What to Do if your Card Becomes Inactive After October 1?
If for any reason your card becomes inactive after October 1, there is no need to worry. As per the notification of the Union Ministry, such cardholders will be given an additional opportunity to do e-KYC from October 1 to January 1, 2027 (a period of 3 months). During this time, your e-KYC process will be completed through field verification and if everything is found to be correct, the card will be activated.
