TRAI’s New Mobile Recharge Rules! What will be the Impact on Jio, Airtel and Vi Users?
There has been a big change for telecom users regarding mobile recharge. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has implemented new rules for prepaid users.The aim of this rule is to provide more recharge options to users who have little or no need for mobile data. Separate Recharge Options for Calls and SMS
According to the new rules, if a telecom company offers a plan with a validity of 30 days or less, which includes calling, SMS and data benefits, then it will also have to offer a plan with only voice and SMS benefits for the same validity. This voice SMS only plan will not include mobile data. Its price will also be kept lower than the corresponding bundle plan.
This new change could be especially beneficial for those users who use their SIM mainly for making calls and sending SMS on their phones. Instead of paying extra for data that they don’t need, they can now choose a plan that only includes the call and SMS service they need.
Emphasize 30-day Validity Plan
TRAI’s new rules have also given importance to the recharge option with 30 days validity. Since there is currently a 28-day plan, there may be a situation where you have to recharge 13 times in 12 months. A plan with 30 days validity will make this calculation simpler.
Recharge Facility on the Same Date of Every Month
The new rules also include the option of monthly renewal. Telecom companies will have to offer at least one Voice and SMS Only plan, which can be renewed on the same date every month. If there is no such date in a month, then the plan can be renewed on the last day of the month. This can reduce the problem of having to recharge repeatedly throughout the year due to 28-day recharge.
Not All 28-day Plans will Become 30-day Plans Immediately
Not all 28-day recharge plans of Jio, Airtel or Vi will become 30-day plans immediately. Companies will have to make the required options available as per the new rules. Then the companies can decide the structure and price of their recharge plans.
Longer Validity Voice-SMS Plans will be Offered
TRAI has not limited the changes to short-validity recharges. If a telecom company is offering a long-validity data-bundle plan, then it will also have to make Voice and SMS Only plans available for the same period.TRAI said that the market had limited options for voice and SMS. Therefore, the main objective of this new rule is to provide more options to users who use less data and have a lower budget.
What Jio, Airtel and Vi Users Need to Do?
Users do not need to do any special process for this. Telecom companies will change their recharge portfolio as per the new rules. So in the coming days, new Voice-SMS Only and 30-day validity plans may be seen on the apps and websites of Jio, Airtel and Vi. The prices and benefits of these plans will be decided by the respective companies themselves.
