For small traders, street food vendors, students, renters and migrant workers, using cooking gas will be easier than ever. Government-owned oil companies Indian Oil (IOC), Bharat Petroleum (BPCL) and Hindustan Petroleum (HPCL) are now preparing to expand the availability of 10 kg lightweight composite LPG cylinders to domestic as well as commercial customers. If this proposal is approved, it will bring great relief to lakhs of people who were struggling to lift heavy 19 kg cylinders.

Oil Company is Considering Launching 10 Kg Gas Cylinders

Currently, 19 kg, 5 kg and 2 kg commercial LPG cylinders are available in the market. But the weight of the 19 kg cylinder is very heavy. It is not easy to carry it from one place to another. Due to this, small tea shops, food stalls and people living in rented houses have been demanding light and convenient cylinders for a long time. Now, seeing this need, the oil company is considering launching a 10 kg composite cylinder for commercial use.

Limited to Domestic Customers

Right now, this 10 kg composite cylinder is available to domestic customers in limited quantities. HPCL sells it as HP Gas Ojas, IndianOil sells it as Indane Xtralite and Bharatgas Lite. Now the oil company is technically planning to make it available to commercial customers. According to reports, apart from these gas agencies, commercial LPG may also be sold at some retail outlets.

Made with HDPE Technology

This new cylinder is made from advanced composite technology based on High Density Polyethylene (HDPE). Its biggest advantage is that it is about 50% lighter than conventional cylinders. Due to its low weight, it will be very easy to carry on stairs, store in small shops and use it daily. Not only that, its outer part is transparent. As a result, any extra things can be easily seen in it. The customer can also see how much gas is in the cylinder and it will be easier to refill it.

Price of 10 Kg Cylinder

In Delhi, the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder is Rs 942. Similarly, the price of a 19 kg commercial cylinder is Rs 2,930. The price of a 5 kg commercial gas cylinder is Rs 808.50 paisa. However, the price of a 10 kg commercial composite cylinder has not been fixed yet, but it is said that its price may be between the prices of 5 kg and 19 kg cylinders.

Who will Benefit the Most?

If this scheme is implemented, then the biggest beneficiary will be small traders. Those who have limited gas requirements will not have to carry heavy cylinders around. They will be notified even before the gas runs out. Apart from this, students, employed people and migrant workers living in rented accommodation in small towns and big cities can also easily use these lightweight cylinders.
