Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra to be the New Governor of Reserve Bank of India
Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra will be the new Governor of RBI. His tenure will be for next 3 years. He will replace the current RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das. He will take charge from December 11. The tenure of current RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das is going to end on December 10. It is worth mentioning that in 2022, the Department of Financial Services (DFS) nominated Sanjay Malhotra as the Director of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Who is Sanjay Malhotra?
Sanjay Malhotra is a 1990 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre. Became Chairman and MD of ARC in November 2020. Earlier, he also served as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power. Sanjay Malhotra received his engineering degree from IIT Kanpur. There he completed his Masters from Princeton University. For the past 30 years, Malhotra has worked in the energy, finance, taxation, IT and mines sectors.
The functioning of the Reserve Bank is overseen by a central board of directors, and in this Sanjay Malhotra has experience. So it is said that the government has appointed him to the post of governor. The Board is constituted by the Government under the Reserve Bank of India Act. The director is appointed or nominated by the government for a term of 4 years. The Board has two parts, the first is the Official Director, which consists of the full-time Governor and a maximum of 4 Deputy Directors. On the other hand, a total of 10 directors including 2 government officials are appointed as non-official directors. Otherwise, 4 directors are involved in 4 boards.
