If you are facing difficulties in availing government benefits due to non-matching of fingerprints in Aadhaar card, then their is a good news for you. The government has decided to provide alternative arrangements so that eligible beneficiaries are not deprived of government benefits even if biometric verification fails. This system will be especially useful for people who are facing problems in Aadhaar authentication due to increasing age, unclear fingerprints, or technical errors.

Reasons of Non-matching of Fingerprints in Aadhaar Card

There are many reasons why fingerprints may not match during Aadhaar authentication.

  • Fingerprints may change with age.
  • fingerprints may get damaged due to physical labor.
  • Due to machine malfunctions or network problems, and authentication may fail.

In such a situation, the beneficiary has to try again and again. As a result, people are often inconvenienced and there is a delay in getting ration, pension and other government assistance.

Benefits Available Through Alternative Identity Verification

  • There are other options for Aadhaar authentication to address this issue. If fingerprint verification fails, iris scan or facial recognition technology can be used as required.
  • If this also fails, the rules provide for OTP-based authentication or QR code verifiable Aadhaar card verification. The option to be used will depend on the rules of the relevant scheme and the facilities available.
  • In case of beneficiaries below 18 years of age, there is a provision for verification of identity through other acceptable documents in case of failure of Aadhaar authentication.
  • Similarly, beneficiaries above 18 years of age may be required to provide proof of identity or proof of Aadhaar. This is to ensure that eligible persons are not deprived of government schemes due to biometric issues alone.

Therefore, if the Aadhaar fingerprint does not match, the beneficiaries should not immediately think that they have lost their rights. They can first try using other fingerprints and, if necessary, update the biometric data at the Aadhaar Service Center. It is also necessary to inquire about the alternative authentication facilities and the rules of the relevant scheme at the government service delivery center. This will reduce the inconvenience faced by the eligible beneficiaries due to technological issues.
