The gross negligence of popular quick-commerce company Swiggy and its online store has come to light. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken strict action against the company for allegedly delivering spoiled, contaminated and expired food items to customers. FSSAI has issued a 9 show-cause notice to Swiggy Instamart for alleged violation of food safety rules. The food regulator informed about the action in a post on social media platform ‘X’.

Swiggy Delivering Contaminated & Expired Food

From baby food to milk, Swiggy delivering everything is bad. According to FSSAI, customers from across the country have filed serious complaints against Swiggy Instamart. The complaints include:

  • Baby food product: A customer was delivered highly contaminated and unsafe baby food. Surprisingly, even after the customer returned the defective product, the company sent it back to the customer.
  • Eggs and Milk: There is evidence of customers being served rotten eggs, bad milk, and spoiled tinned food.

Forgery of License Numbers and Name Change

Another major aspect came to light during the FSSAI inspection. It was found that the FSSAI license numbers of some food traders listed on the platform were incorrect, incomplete or missing. In addition, their official registration names and the names displayed on the app were also different, which is a serious offence under the law.

Only Refund to Convince Customers

The food regulator said that even after customers complained about this serious issue, no satisfactory response or corrective action was taken by Swiggy Instamart. The company was only trying to bury the matter by refunding the customers’ money without addressing the food safety issue.

FSSAI’s Strict Orders

Through this notice, FSSAI has raised questions on the onboarding of the seller, quality of the goods and safety measures. Swiggy Instamart has been asked to submit a detailed explanation and compliance report within a week. If the company does not give a satisfactory reply, then its license will be cancelled and strict legal action will be taken under the Food Safety Act.
