Strict steps have been taken by the administration keeping in mind food safety and the health of the common people. A complete ban on loose sailing of oil has been imposed and strict instructions have been issued. Violation of the rules can lead to a fine of lakhs of rupees and even jail.

Complete Ban on Selling Loose Edible Oil

A massive campaign has been launched to remove toxic and adulterated oil from the plates of the common people. The FDA has given clear instructions that no shopkeeper or trader can sell edible oil openly in the market. The oil will be sold only in sealed packets and with proper labels. Loose edibe oil does not have the date of manufacture, expiry date or proper identification of the company.

Taking advantage of this, some unscrupulous traders are playing with the lives of common consumers by mixing cheap and low-quality chemicals. In particular, strict restrictions have been imposed on mixing other cheap oils with mustard oil and using old and rusty tin cans to store oil.

Repeated Heating of Same Oil in Hotels and Oil Refineries has been Banned

Not only the sale of raw oil, but also the repeated heating of the same oil in hotels and oil refineries has been banned. Oil heated multiple times produces very harmful substances for the body, which increases the risk of fatal diseases like heart disease, high blood pressure, liver problems and cancer. After a large quantity of low-quality and fake oil was seized during a recent massive inspection, the administration has been forced to impose strict 14-point guidelines on the entire supply chain.

Violating Rules will Lead to Imprisonment of up to 7 Years

Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has taken such a big decision regarding food safety. These new rules have been issued across the state under the leadership of Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Munde. All manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers and e-commerce platforms in the state have been clearly warned that violating the rules will lead to imprisonment of up to 7 years. The administration has made it clear that there will be no compromise with the health of the people. It is not just government regulations, consumer also need to be aware. While buying oil from the market, don’t forget to check whether the packet is sealed or not and its manufacturing and expiry date.
